It's been a while since the World Boxing Super Series have announced any dates for their first round matches, but the super middleweight tournament announced its third first round matchup.
Chris Eubank Jr., the current IBO super middleweight champion and No. 3 seed of the Super Series, is facing Avni Yildirim and the match now has a date and venue: October 7 at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart, Germany.
Eubank fought his way into the tournament by defeating Arthur Abraham on July 15 to retain his IBO title. Eubank was the final entrant in the tournament, being the only boxer to be officially added into the field after the opening gala.
Yildrim, the current WBC International super middleweight champion, has won both of his fights in 2017 and has won all 16 of his pro fights. Yildrim is also a former WBC International Silver light heavyweight champion.
George Groves, the WBA "super" super middleweight champion and top-seed of the tournament, will defend his title against Jamie Cox on October 14 at SSE Wembley Arena in London. Callum Smith, the No. 2 seed, is fighting Erik Skoglund on September 16 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. The only first round match in the super middleweight tournament that is yet to have a date and venue is Juergen Braehmer vs. Rob Brant.
