Chris Weidman Says He Should Get Next Middleweight Title Shot

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman has won just one of his last four under the UFC banner.

Despite the sagging record, a confident Weidman says that he should be getting the next shot at the UFC Middleweight Title.

“As far as who should fight Whittaker? I dunno, I think I should,” Weidman told Submission Radio. “I just beat the top-five ranked Gastelum, he’s never been finished in his career. So I’m coming off a win and Romero’s coming off a loss.”

Weidman made those comments before the recent UFC 221 main event, where an overweight Yoel Romero earned a third round knockout win over former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold.

The former champion also had a procedure recently done on his hand and the fighter expects to be able to fight against in a few months.

“Maybe another two months, maybe another three or less. I’m gonna go and see a doctor in Vegas and get some injections, so hopefully that speeds up the process,” says Weidman.

UFC President Dana White said after UFC 221 that Romero is getting the next title shot, which would damper the potential plan for Weidman.
