Chris Weidman Still Targeting Middleweight Championship

MMA

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman will be taking on Gegard Mousasi in the co-main event of UFC 210.

Weidman isn?t just looking to defeat Mousasi at UFC 210, but he also wants to get the middleweight title back.

?My goal is to get that championship belt around my waist again ? that?s what I want more than anything,? Weidman said on the UFC 210 preview show. ?You can?t get there without taking it one fight at a time. If I didn?t think I could beat everybody in this division, I wouldn?t be fighting. I just would be done. I feel like I?m the best fighter in the world, and I?ve got a good guy in front of me to be able to prove it.?

The former champion lost his title to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194, but British fighter Michael Bisping is the current king of the division.

Even though he will be entering the fight against Mousasi on a two fight losing streak, Weidman realizes he's in the midst of a growing process.

?Losing is part of life,? Weidman said. ?It?s something that you always have to be able to handle. I?ve just got to get back on the horse and keep on working.?

UFC 210 takes place on Saturday, April 8 from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York with Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
