UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor has found himself at the center of controversy yet again when he was caught on video using a homophobic slur backstage at UFC Fight Night Gdansk.
The fighter recently appeared on The Late Late Show in Ireland and he issued an apology for using such harsh language.
"I was whispering in his ear and I was speaking on that and I said what I said,? McGregor said. ?I meant no disrespect to nobody of the LGBT community. I didn?t mean no disrespect. It is what it is. I?ll just say sorry for what I said and that?s it and try to move on from it.?
McGregor?s mouth has gotten him in trouble before, including accusations of racism against the fighter during the media tour to promote his super fight with Floyd Mayweather.
In the past, the UFC Lightweight Champion has expressed his support for same sex unions in his home country.
"You?d swear I was screaming at two people of the same sex kissing,? he said. ?I campaigned, when we were trying to get same sex marriage legalized, I was campaigning for that. It is another one where things just get blown out and they love to just, any chance they get they love to throw me under the bus.?
It is unknown at this time just when McGregor is going to return to the Octagon, but his coach says UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson is the logical opponent when he does return.
