Cynthia Calvillo was notified of a potential USADA violation in line with her bout against former UFC Women?s Strawweight Champion Carla Esparza at UFC 219.
The fighter has already received her punishments from both USADA and the NSAC, but she has also lost a sponsorship deal due to the situation.
A spokesperson from BODYARMOR sent the following statement to MMA Fighting about the fighter no longer being a sponsor for their brand:
?While we don?t comment on specifics of any of our athlete partnership agreements ? we can confirm that Cynthia is no longer a BODYARMOR spokesperson and we wish her all the best.?
There is no word from Calvillo or BODYARMOR as to how much money the fighter has lost from the now canceled sponsorship deal.
Calvillo says she uses the marijuana for medicinal purposes and has even discussed the matter with UFC Vice President Of Athlete Health & Performance Jeff Novitzky.
?It?s something that I discussed with [UFC vice president of athlete health and performance] Jeff Novitzky before, even once I got into the UFC in terms of the usage of marijuana. So I?ve done this safely every single fight, I?ve been tested every day the day of my fight and it?s never been an issue before,? says Calvillo on The MMA Hour.
Due to the suspensions the fighter has a received, a return to action cannot take place until after September 20 of this year.
