Dana White Says Kelvin Gastelum Didn’t Fight At UFC 225 Due To Personal Issues, Gastelum Says White Is Just Mad

MMA

When Yoel Romero missed weight for a shot at UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 225, an alternative to the non-title fight would?ve been to have Kelvin Gastelum face the champion on about a days notice.

The middleweight contender didn?t accept the bout and UFC President Dana White claims that because the fighter has some personal issues to deal with.

?He should have been the backup here tonight when (Romero missing weight) all went down. He couldn?t do it,? White said to MMA Weekly. ?He?s got some personal issues that he seriously needs to take care of. Some s?t that he needs to get together and handle quick.?

Gastelum denies having any serious personal issues at the moment and even claism to be ?dumbfounded? by the comments made by White.

The top contender believes that the UFC President is simply mad because he didn?t take the short notice opportunity.

?I was dumbfounded,? Gastelum said on The MMA Hour. ?Because I don?t know where those comments are coming from. I just figured he was upset over me not taking the fight a day-and-a-half before.?

There is no word at this time as to whom the next middleweight title shot will go to, as the champion is out right now due to a hand injury suffered at UFC 225.
