UFC President Dana White recently appeared on the UFC Unfiltered Podcast and seenmed optimistic in regards to a potential fight between Ronda Rousey and Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino.
"Ronda wants to fight her," White said. "We'll have to figure out at what weight to fight. But Ronda wants that fight. ... Ronda could do [1]40."
This is a dream match for many in the MMA world, a fight between the two nearly came to fruition during the days of Strikeforce as Cyborg was going to defend her featherweight title against Rousey, but Rousey decided to drop to bantamweight, then would go onto win both the UFC and Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Titles. Rousey would later sign to fight Cyborg in 2013, before Justino asked for her UFC release.
Rousey has not competed since losing her bantamweight title to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November of 2015, Cyborg has fought twice in the UFC in 2016, and is the current Invicta Fighting Championships Featherweight Champion.Cyborg has been calling for a women’s featherweight division in the UFC, but White said that fans shouldn't hold their breath.
"I don't think so, I think, first of all, there aren't enough 145-pound female fighters to start a 145-pound division," said White. "There just isn't. You know? Cyborg is this one girl floating out there who had that type of star power. She headlined Brazil for us."
Cyborg nor Rousey have their next fights officially scheduled.
