Dana White Says Rose Namajunas Should Be Next For Title Fight

MMA

Dana White says Rose Namajunas proved she is ready for a championship opportunity with her dominant win in Kansas City.

At UFC on Fox Kansas City, Namajunas defeated Michelle Waterson via submission to a rear naked choke. Namajunas beat Waterson up thoroughly while they were on the feet, and went for the submission while still standing. Waterson tapped soon after the two hit the ground. After the fight Namajunas made it known she wanted to face the winner of the bout between UFC Strawweight Champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk and Jéssica Andrade. At the post-fight press conference, Dana White told media he could see Namajunas getting the fight she desires.

"Rose went back to the drawing board and she looked amazing tonight. She could not have fought a more perfect fight. She thinks she's ready for a title and I agree with her after tonight's performance," said White.

His tone and praise remained consistent in a backstage interview with UFC correspondent Megan Olivi.

"She looked amazing tonight. She put on the performance of a lifetime. A lot of hype behind (Waterson) after her last win over Paige Van Zant. (Namajunas) did what she had to do to solidify herself. She called out whoever wins the title next time. I think she's ready," said White.

Jędrzejczyk and  Andrade fight May 13th at UFC 211. Namajunas said in a backstage interview after the bout she would "be happy" to fight either athlete. In the post-fight press conference, Namajunas said she has a goal of being champion by the end of 2017.
