Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson and former WSOF Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje are going to battle for the vacant UFC Interim Lightweight Title in the main event of UFC 249

There is one fighter who’s future plans are going to be affected by the UFC 249 main event according to UFC President Dana White and that person is former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor

“This impacts everybody,” White said to Brett Okamoto of ESPN (via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “There’s three fights that have already been postponed, we’re going to work out over the next several weeks and I don’t know where this puts anybody. Conor really wants that rematch with Khabib. Well Khabib and Tony or Gaethje won’t fight now until probably September.”

McGregor last competed in the main event of UFC 246, but no future fights have been revealed for the fighter at this time.

White admits that throwing the card for UFC 249 together at the last minute due to the coronavirus is something that nobody saw coming.

“Nobody saw this coming,” White said. “This is one of those things you can’t predict or see coming. It happened but we’re rolling with it and we’re going to get it figured out.”

UFC 249 takes place on Saturday, April 18 from a secret location with Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
