Dana White Says UFC Doctors Must Evaluate Tony Ferguson Before He Can Fight Again

Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson recently stated that he had passed medical examinations and is ready to return to action.

UFC President Dana White says that the promotion?s doctors must evaluate the former interim champion before he can fight in the Octagon again.

?I don?t know if Tony?s ready to fight, I don?t know if that?s absolutely accurate,? White said at the UFC 236 post-fight press conference (via Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie). ?We haven?t had anybody evaluate him yet.?

Ferguson had been out of action while dealing with personal issues after his wife filed a restraining order against the fighter earlier this year.

The former interim champion has said that he wants a fight with UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, but White says that opportunity is going to UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier.

?This was (Ferguson?s) fight,? White said. ?This was supposed to be him and Max. This was his fight, and he turned it down. We?ve made it very clear that the winner of this fight would fight for the title, so that?s the deal. Unless something happens to Dustin Poirier, he gets hurt, he gets injured or something happens, he?s got the fight.?

There is no word yet on when Ferguson will return to action, as he was last seen in action in October of 2018 at UFC 229.
