Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson's title fight at UFC 205 didn't provide a clear winner and Dana White wants the two of them to fight each other one more time.
Speaking at the UFC 205 post-fight press conference, White said the Woodley-Thompson fight was exceptional and a rematch for Woodley's UFC welterweight belt should occur immediately.
“You rematch them,” White said. “It was a draw, and the fight was ridiculous. It was a ‘Fight of the Night.’ Do it again.”
The fight ended in controversial fashion, when Bruce Buffer read a majority draw as a split decision win
One thing to look at the UFC welterweight division is Demian Maia's impeding title opportunity. Maia won his last 6 fights, including a win over Carlos Condit in his most recent fight back in August, and looked to be next in line to get a shot at the welterweight title. White said Maia will still be considered for a title, but it'll be until after a Woodley-Thompson rematch happens that discussions for Maia to compete for the title begin. Donald Cerrone has been calling for a fight with Maia.
“[Maia will] get the next shot if he wants to fight somebody else,” White said. “I hate to make fights, but (the rematch) makes sense.”
In the co-main event of the first ever UFC card at Madison Square Garden, Woodley and Thompson fought to a majority draw where 2 of the 3 judges' scorecards had the fight tied at 47-47 while the other judge had it 48-47 in favor of Woodley. Both men received a $50,000 bonus for winning "Fight of the Night" honors.
