UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229, but would then hop the cage and instigate a huge brawl.
While a Nurmagomedov versus McGregor rematch seems like a sure thing in most peoples minds, it may not happen according to UFC President Dana White.
“We have to see what happens with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (before discussing a rematch),” White told MMA Junkie. “Not just the commission – there’s going to be fines and God knows what else. Can these guys get visas and get back in the country? And I mean Khabib. We’ll see how this thing plans out.”
Nurmagomedov could be facing a lot of punishment for instigating the brawl, but nothing has been announced at this time.
White, in the end, is just like a parent right now, who isn’t angry, but disappointed in what happened between his two UFC stars.
“I’ve been doing this for 18 years and on the biggest night ever, I couldn’t be more disappointed,” White said. “You know me, I’m always mad at everything. I’m not even mad. I’m just disappointed.”
If a rematch were to come together, it would be the second for McGregor and the first for Nurmagomedov in their respective UFC tenures.
