Daniel Cormier Expecting To Return This Spring

MMA

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier was expected to defend his championship in a rematch against Anthony Johnson at UFC 206, but a knee injury caused him to pull out of the fight. Now that the injured knee is starting to heal up, Cormier is expecting to make his return to the octagon this coming Spring.

?I?ve got to get back into the octagon,? Cormier said at a UFC On Fox 22 press event. ?I want to fight. I want to fight Anthony Johnson. He deserves the opportunity, so I?m trying my best to get healthy. Hopefully, it happens very soon, and we fight this spring.?

Cormier has been trying to speed up the process of his recovery, which is why he and his doctor are putting the injured knee through PRP therapy.

?I went back to the doctor, got some more therapy done, PRP, as I?m trying to really speed up the process,? said Cormier.

PRP therapy --- platelet-rich plasma therapy, utilizes platelets from a person's own blood to rebuild a damaged tendon.

Cormier hasn?t competed since he fought former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva in a non-title fight at UFC 200, Cormier won the fight by unanimous decision.

Cormier won the championship back at UFC 187, when he defeated Anthony Johnson in their first meeting by third round submission via rear naked choke.
