UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier was soundly defeated by Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 214.
Shortly after suffering the defeat, the champion wanted to throw all his belts away, but his wife stepped into save the day.
“I was pissed off,” Cormier said on The MMA Hour. “I just couldn’t believe that that happened. You don’t understand me, you know? I guess it’s like a wrestling thing, you get so mad, you don’t think about the the emotion and reaction, and then you regret it later. I would have regretted throwing those away. My wife wouldn’t let me.”
Since UFC 214, the UFC Light Heavyweight Title has been awarded back to DC after Jones failed a USADA issued drug test for a second time.
Even though he didn’t throw the UFC belts away, the champion still doesn’t display them in his home.
“I still haven’t put those back up,” Cormier said. “I tried to throw them away but my wife wouldn’t let me. So I just put them away in my closet. I’m still not at the point now where I can take all these belts out and face them every day.”
Despite being awarded the UFC Light Heavyweight Title again, the champion doesn’t have his next title defense scheduled at this time.
