Former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier suffered a unanimous decision loss to UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 252.
A defeated Cormier was the victim of an accidental eye poke from Miocic in the third round of their bout. DC says that he could not see anything out of the left eye after the poke.
?I mean, look at my eye,? Cormier said after the fight (via Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie). ?I couldn?t even (expletive) see the rest of the fight. I can?t see anything out of my left eye. It?s black. It is what it is. It doesn?t matter. I told Marc (Goddard) he poked me, but he said he thought it was a punch. But after the fight he said, ?Yeah, I saw it on the replay.? I just can?t see out of my left eye. It doesn?t matter, though. Whatever. It is what it is.?
DC was transported to the hospital after the fight to get his injured eye checked out. Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports that Cormier did suffer a torn cornea, but no surgery is needed at this time.
Cormier retired after the loss to Miocic. He may still need surgery on the damaged eye, but it all depends on how the eye heals.
UFC 252 took place from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, August 15. Miocic defeated Cormier by unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47) to cap off their trilogy.
