Daniel Cormier Says People Want To See McGregor vs. Khabib Rematch For Possible Drama Afterwards

MMA

Daniel Cormier give his take on why people truly want to see a McGregor versus Khabib rematch.

It was at UFC 229 this past October in the main event of the card that Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov clashed for the UFC Lightweight Championship. Khabib ultimately submitted McGregor to retain the belt but it was afterwards that had the pro fight world buzzing. After all of the back and forth and trash talk between the two parties, Khabib hopped over the cage and began brawling with those in Conor McGregor's corner and Khabib's corner-men jumped in the octagon and ambushed Conor from behind. The event was featured in national media headlines and was covered on various platforms.

The current UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier stepped into the octagon while the madness was unfolding in an attempt to calm things down. As of recently there has been a larger calling from the fans for a rematch between Khabib and Conor and UFC President Dana White stated during an interview that the fight should happen this year. Cormier gave his thoughts on this topic one month after UFC 229 when he joined 'The Jim Rome' podcast and stated that people only want to see this rematch because of what could happen after the fight.

“I think, for the UFC, for as bad as the after-the-fight was, people now, are actually talking about a rematch of a fight, that wasn't all that competitive, and I believe they’re only talking about it because of the extracurricular afterwards so in terms of the sport I think it’s just a bad matchup for Conor, but you never know. You never know what happens." Cormier expressed.
