In one of HBO?s last boxing cards of the year, viewership and ratings did not hold over well.
The October 27 HBO Boxing card from Madison Square Garden, which featured three world title fights, did not even reach 600,000 viewers on average for any of those fights.
The main event saw Daniel Jacobs defeated Sergiy Derevyanchenko by split decision for the vacant IBF middleweight title. That fight only managed to average 500,000 viewers and a 0.32. That viewership is significantly smaller than the final numbers from Jacobs? other main event fight on HBO in 2018. Jacobs? April win over Maciej Sulecki averaged 811,000 viewers, which is the second-highest viewership numbers for an HBO main event in 2018.
The co-main event actually drew in a larger audience than the main event. Alberto Machado?s first-round knockout victory over Yuandale Evans averaged 543,000 viewers and a 0.36 rating.The opening fight was a women?s boxing fight, the second-ever to air live on HBO, between Heather Hardy and Shelly Vincent. Hardy defeated Vincent for the vacant WBO featherweight title and that fight averaged 442,000 viewers with a 0.30 rating.
The final viewership numbers for the October 27 card is higher than HBO?s last live boxing broadcast, the September 8 card titled ?SuperFly 3.? The main event of ?SuperFly 3,? a super flyweight fight between Juan Francisco Estrada and Felipe Orucuta, averaged a year-low 298,000 viewers.
HBO has only one more scheduled boxing card officially announced for the remainder of 2018. That card will take place on November 24 in Atlantic City and will feature Dmitry Bivol defending his WBA light heavyweight title against former world champion Jean Pascal.
