Shortly after knocking out his opponent, a celebrating Cruickshank would give Matsumoto the middle finger.
Cruickshank would take to Instagram after the event to issue an apology for giving the finger after his fight:
Some days you get the bear, some days the bear gets you. Today I got the bear.... I don't know why I flipped him off at the end, I regret doing it. I have the up most respect for my opponent, the Japanese people, and The whole Rizin organization. #rizin #rizinff #headkick #headkickko #ko #knockout #japan #usa #mma
The UFC veteran has seen a measure of success in Rizin, picking up a trio of wins in the promotion over the aforementioned Kochi Matsumoto, Shinji Sasaki and Andy Souwer. Cruickshank also won six of thirteen times during his UFC run, with some notable wins coming over Yves Edwards, Erik Koch and Anthony Njokuani.
There is no word yet on when Cruickshank will compete again, while nobody from Rizin or Matsumoto's camp have issued a statement on his post-fight antics.
