Darrion Caldwell Open To Patricio Pitbull Bout, Pitbull Calls It A Warm Up Fight

Bellator MMA Bantamweight Champion Darrion Caldwell earned a first round submission win over Leandro Higo in the main event of Bellator 195.

Higo is a training partner of the Pitbull Brothers and it was Patricky who go into a shouting match with Caldwell shortly after the bout ended. Caldwell is open to a bout with Patricio, mainly because he wouldn’t mind beating the featherweight champion to become a two division title holder.

“I just want to fight everybody,” Caldwell said on The MMA Hour. “I don’t want to keep fighting the same guys that I fought. To be honest, that whole Patricky ‘Pitbull’, it’s nothing really on my side against the Pitbull brothers, I just want the belt at 145 (which Patricio holds). So if he ain’t got the belt at 145, he can keep pushing, it’s no fight with me. He’s standing in the way of me and my goals and my goal is to be a two-division champ. So let’s make it happen. I’m down for that. I already said I’m down for it, it’s nothing really against him personally, but he’s in the way of my goals so if he’s there when it’s time, let’s make it happen.”

Patricio is rumored to be defending the gold against Daniel Weichel next, but nothing has been announced at this time.

The Pitbull Brother is willing to face Caldwell, but says that Bellator officials have notified him that it won’t be happening round now.

“I always tell Bellator that I’m available to fight any time,” Freire told MMA Fighting. “I spoke with the president, I emailed Mike Kogan saying I’m available to fight Caldwell before this fight with Weichel, but they said it’s not their plan now. I told Caldwell that if he really wants this fight, he has to ask them, because I did my part. He’s still tweeting about it. I’d fight. I’m ready. I’d fight him next week.”

If the bout does come together one day, whomever won the bout would become the first fighter in Bellator MMA to hold two belts at the same time.
