Much like the rematch between Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin, both David Benavidez and Ronald Gavril promise their world title rematch will end with one man knocked out.
Benavidez, who is defending his WBC super middleweight title against Gavril on February 17, said during a recent media workout that he will knock out Gavril and prevent the fight from being decided by the judges.
"I am not focused on anything except for this fight. He says it's going to end in a knockout, but I promise you I will finish him with a knockout come fight night. I'm here to give the fans what they want, and that's another great fight." Benavidez said.
The first fight between the two, which took place on Showtime last September, had Benavidez win the title by split decision. Despite being knocked down in the 12th and final round. Benavidez won with scores of 116-111, 117-111 and 111-115. The title win made Benavidez the youngest super middleweight world champion in history. But there were enough people who believed Gavril had won the fight that the WBC ordered a rematch between the two boxers.
The fight will be the only world title fight taking place in Las Vegas on February 17, serving as the co-main event to the Showtime Championship Boxing card headlined by Danny Garcia vs. Brandon Rios. The winner of Garcia vs. Rios will be the mandatory challenger to the WBC welterweight title after current mandatory challenger Shawn Porter has had his turn at fighting for the title.
