David Lemieux To Fight Tureano Johnson On Canelo Alvarez vs. Rocky Fielding Card

David Lemieux is returning to Madison Square Garden for his next fight as he awaits his middleweight title shot.

Lemieux will compete on the December 15 Madison Square Garden card being streamed on the DAZN streaming service. Lemieux will face off against twice-beaten middleweight Tureano Johnson, who has not fought in well over a year.

This will be Lemieux’s first fight since winning a title eliminator on September 15. Lemieux knocked out Gary O’Sullivan in the first round to become the mandatory challenger for the WBA “super” middleweight championship currently being held by Canelo Alvarez. This will be Lemieux’s first fight in New York since losing his IBF middleweight title to Gennady Golovkin in 2015.

Johnson has never broken out as a real contender at 160 pounds, only winning a handful of regional titles from some of the major governing bodies of the sport. After losing his last fight against Sergiy Derevyanchenko in a title eliminator in 2017 and 16 months of inactivity since then, Johnson finds himself unranked in the WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF middleweight rankings.

Alvarez is set to headline that December 15 show from Madison Square Garden, challenging Rocky Fielding for his WBA “regular” super middleweight title. On that same card, Artur Beterbiev is going to defend his IBF light heavyweight title against Joe Smith Jr. According to Boxrec, IBF super featherweight titleholder Tevin Farmer and unified WBA and IBF women’s lightweight champion Katie Taylor are scheduled to fight on the card, but neither has an opponent for December 15.
