Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz 2 Weigh-In Results: Luis Nery, Julio Ceja Miss Weight

Emmanuel Rodriguez misses out on another big fight as Luis Nery is overweight yet again.

On the Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz II weigh-ins, Nery came in at 119 pounds, one pound over the bantamweight limit of 118 pounds. That fight was supposed to kick off the pay-per-view event from Las Vegas.

After being given an hour by the Nevada State Athletic Commission to shed the extra pound, Nery elected to try and negotiate a deal to give Rodriguez more money to keep the fight on. That deal would have included a rehydration clause that wouldn’t limited how much Nery could gain by the next morning. Instead, Rodriguez’s team refused the deal and so the bout was ultimately scrapped.

This isn’t the first time that Nery has missed weight as a bantamweight. In 2018, Nery missed weight before a WBC title defense against Shinsuke Yamanaka. Nery was stripped of the WBC title and had to work his way back to get another title opportunity. Heading into the fight, Nery was all but assured a chance to fight Nordine Oubaali for the WBC title, but this latest transgression could potentially put that potential title shot in jeopardy.

In its place is a super featherweight bout between Leduan Barthelemy and Eduardo Ramirez that was originally scheduled to be on the FS2 prelims.

In other Wilder vs. Ortiz weigh-in related news, Julio Ceja also missed weight for his WBA “Regular” super bantamweight title fight against Brandon Figueroa. While Figueroa did make weight, Ceja initially came in at 126.5 pounds, which isn’t over the super bantamweight limit of 122 pounds, he was over the featherweight limit of 126 pounds.
