Derrick Lewis is challenging UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier for the gold in the main event of UFC 230.

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic has been clamoring for a rematch against DC and Lewis doesn’t understand why Miocic didn’t get that rematch at UFC 230.

“I don’t know why they don’t want to give it to Stipe,” Lewis said to TMZ Sports. “It would’ve been great for them to give it to Stipe than to me, but I appreciate them giving me the shot. But I believe that Stipe really deserves the shot, since he was the champion for a while, he defended it many times and he was dominant for a while. I don’t know why they didn’t give it to Stipe, unless he wanted some time off.”

Cormier and Miocic collided the first time for the title at UFC 226, with DC claiming the gold after a first round knockout win.

Lewis believes that if he has one advantage over Cormier, it would be with the fighter’s heart.

“I just believe that my heart is the best in the sport,” Lewis said. “And I believe that’s what carried me through my whole career. Not my talent or my power or anything like that. I just believe my heart.”

UFC 230 takes place on Saturday, November 3 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
