Diego De La Hoya, Eduardo "Rocky" Hernandez Suffer First Pro Defeats On DAZN

Boxing has seen plenty of big upsets on DAZN this year, and the most recent Golden Boy Promotions card saw not one but two major upsets on a show in Carson, California.

Before Rey Vargas would successfully defend his WBC super bantamweight title against Tomoki Kameda in the main event, Diego De La Hoya and Eduardo Hernandez would suffer their first defeat in the pro ranks, both in shocking upset losses.

First, Hernandez, a rising super featherweight prospect who has made a name for himself being an exceptional knockout artist, would be the one on the receiving end of a knockout punch. Hernandez suffered a first-round knockout defeat at the hands of fringe contender Roger Gutierrez.

Using his length, jab and some very timely footwork, Gutierrez was able to constantly land big punches on Hernandez while avoiding getting tagged by him as well. Gutierrez would then take down Hernandez with a right hand and win the fight with less than 30 seconds remaining in the opening frame. The loss snapped Hernandez's 28-fight win streak while Gutierrez has now extended his win streak to three fights, putting him right in the middle of the super featherweight title picture as a dark horse contender.

As for De La Hoya, the cousin of Oscar De La Hoya, his defeat came via sixth-round stoppage against Ronny Rios. Both men had a slugfest throughout six rounds, but Rios would consistently come out landing the bigger punches on De La Hoya. Rios dropped De La Hoya about a minute into the sixth round and when De La Hoya got back up, he stated that he cannot continue fighting as he said his head was awarding.

With the win, Rios is now the new NABF super bantamweight and WBA Gold champion, meaning he could potentially get himself a title opportunity at 122 pounds sometime in 2020.
