Dmitry Bivol's first test as the sole WBA light heavyweight champion was a huge hit and Trent Broadhurst was the recipient of said hit.
It took one right jab in the first round to take out Broadhurst in the main event of a Matchroom Boxing card in Monte Carlo. Bivol defended his WBA light heavyweight title as a result of the win.
It was the fourth straight win by stoppage for Bivol, with all four wins coming within just four rounds. Bivol's four wins, including his WBA "interim" title win, took place this year, moving him to 12-0 as a professional boxer. Each man threw 35 total punches during the brief contest, according to CompuBox. Broadhurst landed just three, with Bivol landing 12.
Bivol said after the fight that his right hand has been really strong lately, but wanted to keep getting improving it as he keeps developing.
?I like the right hand. It is very strong. If I can throw a good, strong right hand, I want to develop that further. There?s no limit to how much you can add to that," Bivol said.
Two months ago, Bivol had the lowest of the three possible WBA world light heavyweight titles, the WBA "interim" light heavyweight title. Andre Ward, the "super" champion, retired in September, vacating the title in the process. Badou Jack, the "regular" champion, was ordered to fight Bivol, but Jack then vacated the title. The WBA then elevated Bivol's title as the sole champion and remove the title's interim status.
