Dominick Cruz Says He Deserves The Next Bantamweight Title Shot

UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw last defended the gold against Cody Garbrandt in the main event of UFC 227.

With Dillashaw needing a new opponent for the next title defense, a now healthy former UFC Bantamweight Champion in Dominick Cruz says that opportunity should go him.

“I know I deserve that title shot,” said Cruz on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, “because I defended that title more times than anyone in the history of the division.”

Cruz hasn’t been in action in almost two years, with his last bout being a loss to the aforementioned Garbrandt at UFC 207.

The former bantamweight champion also defeated the current divisional champion, which is another reason Cruz believes he deserves the next title shot.

“The problem is, I beat him already. You can’t be the best unless you beat the guy that beat you,” Cruz said. “It’s just common sense. Everybody in the world knows that, including him.”

Dillashaw has yet to comment himself on who the next title will go to, but he was also recently challenged by newly crowned UFC Flyweight Champion Henry Cejudo. Dillashaw and Cruz last fought each other at UFC Fight Night 81, with Cruz winning the title by decision on that night.
