The main event of UFC 205 did not go the way that former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez had planned, as he lost the strap via second round TKO to Conor McGregor.
Alvarez, who is also a former two-time Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion, issued a statement about his loss via his official Instagram.
Alvarez was making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 90 earlier in the year.
McGregor is also the UFC Featherweight Champion. He has not defended that title since he won it by defeating Jose Aldo at UFC 194.
