With the boxing world eagerly awaiting Deontay Wilder's WBC heavyweight title defense Tyson Fury on December 1, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is more focused on the aftermath and the possibility of finally making a fight between Wilder and Anthony Joshua possible for 2019.
Hearn spoke with Sky Sports Boxing and said he wants to make offer to Wilder for a potential fight against Joshua to crown an undisputed heavyweight champion. Wilder's camp has previously said they are shutting down any negotiation talks until after December 1, which is when his fight against Fury takes place.
The British promoter said he's going to make a two-fight offer, with one fight being in the United States and the other in the United Kingdom. Hearn added that he will contact Wilder to continue negotiations the day after the fight against Fury should Wilder emerge victorious.
"If they are true to their word, on December 2, if they beat Tyson Fury, we will immediately start negotiations and we'll see where we get to. April 13 is easy, and it's a two-fight deal this time, the offer that we've made. One in America, one in the UK, we cannot say fairer than that," Hearn said.
Although Wilder is favored in the fight against Fury, Hearn did speak on the possibility of Fury winning the fight. The contract for the fight does have a rematch clause, meaning if Wilder loses his title, then he would almost surely go for the rematch instead of a fight against Joshua. In that case, Hearn said he would simply move on. Joshua is scheduled to defend his WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles at Wembley Stadium in April 2019.
"If Fury wins and the rematch clause kicks in, we know we've got to move on ourselves, but my instruction is 'Make that fight,'" Hearn said.
