Eddie Wineland is a top 15 bantamweight in the UFC, and a former World Extreme Cagefighting Bantamweight Champion, but unless you had a subscription to UFC Fight Pass, you wouldn?t have been able to watch him defeat Takeya Mizugaki.
Wineland, who says his family always watches him fight, found it a little distressing that he was competing on the UFC Fight Pass portion of the UFC On Fox 22 card.
?It?s really not a big deal,? Wineland told MMA Junkie. ?Well, yes and no. I don?t know if they?re trying to sell Fight Pass ? I was just concerned with my family being able to watch. I didn?t have a Fight Pass (account) set up. I had to deal with getting a Fight Pass set up and getting a cable so they could hook the computer to the TV and yada yada yada. But, needless to say, my family got to watch, so all is well.?
UFC Fight Pass issues aside, Wineland is a fan of technology, as he spoke to his kids via Facetime shortly after his victorious Saturday Night.
?He told me, ?Daddy?s going to beat him,? so yeah, daddy beat him,? Wineland said. ?This is huge. Mizugaki, he?s a veteran like myself. We?ve both been around the block a few times. This was a good fight. The reason I keep fighting is because of my boys. I?ve had my jaw broken twice. I was ready to hang them up. And we had my first son, Jack, and I just got the itch again. You?ve got to prove to your boy that you can get up, keep moving forward, that you don?t quit because you get knocked down. It?s relit a fire.?
Wineland did go undefeated in his 2016 campaign, defeating the aforementioned Takeya Mizugaki at UFC on Fox 22, also defeating Frankie Saenz at UFC On Fox 20.
