Erislandy Lara vs. Ramon Alvarez, Peter Quillin vs. Caleb Truax Set For August 31 On Fox

Erislandy Lara’s in-ring return has been confirmed by PBC and will be televised on Fox in late August.

During a recent episode of “Inside PBC Boxing,” it was announced that Lara will take on junior middleweight contender Ramon Alvarez, the brother of middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, on August 31. The fight would headline a PBC on Fox card on August 31.

Ramon has faced a number of notable boxers throughout his career, including Antonio Margarito and Brandon Rios. Sporting a 28-7-3 pro record, Ramon has won a number of regional titles such as the NABF and IBF North American junior middleweight titles.

Lara, a former WBA junior middleweight world champion, has not won his last two fights, both title bouts. Lara lost a title unification against Jarrett Hurd back in 2018 and then was inactive for the remainder of the year. He returned to the ring in March, fighting Brian Castano to a draw with the WBA "Regular" junior middleweight title on the line.

Also set for the card is a rematch between former world champions Caleb Truax and Peter Quillin. The two previously fought on April 13, but the fight was stopped after two rounds due to an accidental headbutt caused by Truax. As such, the fight, which was a title eliminator for the IBF super middleweight title, was deemed a no decision.

The rematch will also be an IBF super middleweight title eliminator with the winner being the mandatory challenger to the belt being held by Caleb Plant. Plant will defend his title against Mike Lee on a PBC on Fox card taking place on July 20 and serve as the lead-in to the Manny Pacquiao vs. Keith Thurman pay-per-view event.
