Badou Jack Tells Fightful That His Bad Cut Bothered Him During His Last Fight

One of the most defining images of January 2019 was the horrendous cut Badou Jack suffered across his forehead during his fight against Marcus Browne.

Jack suffered the cut during a clash of heads in the seventh round of his fight against Browne. With blood covering his entire face for the remainder of the fight, Jack was no longer battling Browne for the interim WBA light heavyweight title, but also battling the cut and doing everything within his power to not let it bother him.

In a media call days later, Jack was asked by Fightful how much did the cut bother him throughout the fight. While Jack admitted that it did bother him for the remainder of the fight, he knew that there wasn't a chance to really take a breather and address the cut, so he kept on fighting.

?I mean, it was bothering a little bit. I didn?t see too well, but I had it in my heart to keep fighting no matter what. It?s a fight. Things happen like that. There?s no timeouts, this is not football or any other sport. This is boxing. Things happen and you just got to keep fighting," Jack said.

The story of the second half of the fight was the possibility of either the referee or ringside doctors stopping the fight due to the nature of the cut. Jack wasn't going to allow anyone to stop the fight in that manner and wanted to at least finish up the fight. Jack would end up losing the fight by unanimous decision.

?I?m a fighter and I ain?t going to quit and I?m not going to tell the referee to stop the fight. They took me to the doctor a couple of times and we?re going to stop it, but I kept on fighting. He wasn?t hurting me, but the cut was annoying. It was bleeding a lot and it messed up my gameplan, but I?m a fighter and I?m going to keep fighting until the end. You are going to have to kill me to stop that fight,? Jack said.

The fight took place as the co-main event of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Adrien Broner pay-per-view card from Las Vegas. Fightful did a complete recap of the entire card on its MMA and Boxing YouTube channel and that podcast can be seen in the video below.
