Five months ago, Tyson Fury became the first fighter to not come out on the losing end of a fight against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Now, Dominic Breazeale will look to become the first man to defeat Wilder in the pro ranks.
Just days away from his fight against Wilder, Breazeale spoke to the media in a recent conference call and when he asked by Fightful about what he learned from watching Wilder vs. Fury, the heavyweight title challenger said he picked up on a few things he believes he can use to score the upset victory.
"It gave me some better things to be focusing on and to hone in on at the same time. I was there in person... There were some things that I learned from the fight as well as some things I've continuously seen over and over, time and time again," Breazeale said.
Like many in the boxing world, Breazeale believed that Fury won the fight, despite getting dropped twice by Wilder. In respects to what Wilder can do well, Breazeale believes the WBC heavyweight champion is essentially a one-dimensional fighter and Breazeale believes he has the skills to beat him on May 18.
"I thought Fury won that fight. I know he got knocked down a couple of times but as far as the boxing, the world looks at him how he scored in a boxing match. Tyson outscored Wilder that night and won that fight. Fury did some good things. He had some great defensive movements. He did some good attacks as well as counter punching. On the other hand, Wilder did the same thing over and over like he's done in his last four, five fights - over the last four or five years is throw the one, two and hopefully hope and pray that the right hand lands eventually," Breazeale said.
The fight between Wilder and Breazeale will headline a Showtime-televised card from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on May 18. Fightful will have live coverage of the entire card. You can listen to Breazeale talking to Fightful in the video at the top of the page.
