Exclusive: Errol Spence Jr. Not Feeling Added Pressure For Homecoming Fight

After headlining major boxing shows in the United Kingdom and Brooklyn, New York, IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. is coming home for his next challenge and feels ready for it.

In his third consecutive main event fight, Spence will defend his IBF title against mandatory challenger Carlos Ocampo on June 16 at The Star in Frisco, Texas. It will be a homecoming fight for Spence, who was born in Dallas, and it is a special fight for Spence as he, a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, will be fighting in the very same venue the team holds their practices.

It’s been a dream for Spence to fight in Dallas and told Fightful he expects an “electrifying” crowd on June 16.

"I think this is going to be electrifying. There's going to be a great atmosphere. It's going to be a very lively crowd and it's going to be a great event. I'm a hometown guy and they get to see one of their hometown guys and not just somebody out of state. But I think it's going to be loud, it's going to be a great crowd and great atmosphere and great energy all around," Spence said.

Spence, who will be making his second world title defense in front of a potential sold out crowd at The Star, doesn’t think fighting in Dallas will bring any extra pressure. In fact, Spence said he’s always had pressure to perform well and will treat this fight just like any other fight.

"No, I always have pressure to perform and look good. Since I turned pro I've been in the spotlight. All of my fights have been on TV. I'm always pressured to look good and perform all day. I've been dealing with pressure since I've been fighting and this is just another fight for me," Spence said.

The IBF welterweight title fight will headline a three-fight television card on Showtime on June 16 that includes a WBA super bantamweight world title fight. Fightful will have live coverage of the card.
