Exclusive: Jason Moloney: It's An Honor To Represent Australia In World Boxing Super Series

When it comes to global boxing tournaments, there is perhaps no tournament field more diverse than the World Boxing Super Series bantamweight tournament.

Among the many nations represented in the WBSS 118-pound tournament, Australia will have its own contender competing in the World Boxing Super Series: undefeated boxer Jason Moloney.

In an interview with Fightful, Moloney expressed excitement at being the first Australian to compete in the second season of the World Boxing Super Series. With his first fight being on October 20 against IBF champion Emmanuel Rodriguez, Moloney is looking forward to become the latest Australian to win a boxing world title.

But the World Boxing Super Series won't just be an opportunity for fighters across the world to fight the best in the sport, but also win a number of world titles. For the bantamweights, the winner could walk away with the unified WBA, WBO and IBF world titles, cementing the winner's place as the best 118-pound boxer in the world.

"It is a huge honor for me to represent Australia in this tournament and to be the first Australian to fight in the WBSS. I take great pride in representing my country and I hope to do all of Australia proud when I bring the IBF world title back to Australia on October 20," Moloney said. I’m extremely excited to be a part of the World Boxing Super Series. This is what we have been working towards, to be fighting for world titles and fighting the best fighters in the division. This is my opportunity to show the world what I am capable of and I can’t wait!"

Even going back just a couple of years, the concept of the World Boxing Super Series was unfathomable to the political nature of the sport usually preventing certain big fights from happening. But with the WBSS, title unification fights and exciting matchups are now commonplace in the divisions where tournaments are being held. As for the fighters themselves, they are excited to be a part of a historic tournament, including Moloney.

"The WBSS is the best and most exciting thing happening in the world of boxing right now. This is what every fan wants to see, the best fighting the best! I love the concept of the tournament and I’m honored to be a part of it," Moloney said.

The fight between Rodriguez and Moloney takes place at the CFE Arena in Orlando and the card will also feature a WBSS cruiserweight quarterfinals matchup between Yunier Dorticos and Mateusz Masternak.
