In the preliminary main event at UFC on Fox 30, Jordan Mein outlasted Alex Morono en route to a unanimous decision victory.
Backstage, Mein spoke to Fightful's James Lynch about how he's changed as a fighter over the last year.
"I've been taking what my opponents have been giving me. If they've been swinging wild, I've been willing to them down. If they are backing up, I'm willing to strike. Whatever they're giving me, I'm taking."
Mein retired from competition in 2015 following a loss to Thiago Alves, but returned in December 2016. He dropped decisions to Emil Weber Meek and Bella Muhammad before defeating Erick Silva in December 2017.
With the victory over Morono, Mein has now won two straight bouts. Riding the victory high, he knew exactly who he wants in his next fight.
"I lost to Woodley. We had a close split decision and I kept the receipt. I want that one back. I want the champ."
Woodley and Mein met back in 2012 under the Strikeforce banner. The 28-year-old was joking when he made the comment, but it never hurts to shoot your shot.
Mein, who fights out of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, was thankful for the crowd support he got in Calgary.
"It's only two hours away, so we have lots of friends and family coming up.
I could hear the 'Young Gun' chant -- that's all my buddies. They've been with me forever. They're always rooting for me and giving me lots of energy."
