Sean Pierson says Angela Magana deserved it, but blames UFC as well.
At the UFC fighter retreat, Angela Magana was punched in the face by Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino. The altercation occurred after Justino confronted Magana about some derogatory remarks on social media. On a recent episode of Holy Smokes, Fightful MMA's podcast Sean Pierson gave his opinion about the situation and did not speak favorably of Magana.
"This girl deserves to be punched in the face. I don't care what anyone wants to say there. At the end of the day, you're going to talk shit, someone is going to smack you for it, and you're going to get called out on it. That's exactly what happened...I bet ninety percent of the fighters out there totally agree," said Pierson. "And, I think it's UFC's fault," he added.
Pierson questions why Magana was even at the summit. He said he thinks Magana, who is 0-2 in UFC, has an ulterior motive.
"The reason I say that is: what's this girl's name Magano, Magana, whatever? She hasn't got a win since 2011. Why is she at the UFC fighter summit anyway? Why is she in UFC? How weak is that division? I thought that was pretty interesting. You haven't had a win in six years but you're in UFC," said Pierson. "She's a nobody. This is what she wants. She wanted this, it's her trying to sue and get a pay day. This is her UFC paycheck," he added.
Since the punch occurred, Justino was charged with battery, Strawweight Magana challenged Featherweight Justino to a fight in UFC, and Dana White said he was considering the fight. Apparently Magana also has been kicked out fo Alliance MMA.
Also on Holy Smokes, Pierson said he does not believe in a "sucker punch", especially in the case when the recipient was "talking shit." Pierson will appear regularly during segments of Holy Smokes along with other guests from the world of mixed-marital-arts. Also on the episode appeared former UFC event coordinator Burt Watson.
Holy Smokes is a weekly podcast featuring host "Showdown Joe" Ferraro and co-host Sean Ross Sapp.
