With the majority of the welterweight division's top stars fighting under the Premier Boxing Champions banner, it stands to reason that some of those names will likely fight each other at some point.
Of course fans want to see the likes of Errol Spence Jr. fight Shawn Porter or Manny Pacquiao take on Keith Thurman, but what about the fighters themselves. Porter, the current WBC welterweight champion, certainly has his eyes on all three of those names as revealed in a recent interview with Fightful.
But before Porter can think about those welterweight superfights for the future, the present day challenge is mandatory challenger Yordenis Ugas in March.
?I have three names on my list. Pacquiao, Errol Spence and Keith Thurman. The list is short and after this mandatory, I don?t think there?s a reason why I would look to fight any of the other guys out there,? Porter said.
With one of those three names headlining a pay-per-view event on March 16 against Mikey Garcia and PBC being more open to doing such events, one could ponder whether or not Porter could be in line to have such a fight one day. Porter said he would love to be the in the main event of a pay-per-view one day, but it has to be against the right type of opponent.
Porter feels that with Fox supporting PBC and playing a major role for the Spence vs. Garcia event at AT&T Stadium, such a pay-per-view featuring Porter in the main event is certainly doable down the line.
?Definitely with the right opponent. That?s the plan to do this at the highest level and do it so that everyone can see us, which is why we?re on the same network that you see NFL on and all the big time sports. We?re trying to do it the best we can to make a name for ourselves and hopefully those fans will carry on to the pay-per-view and networks as well,? Porter said.
Porter will defend his WBC title against Ugas in the main event of a PBC on Fox card from the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California on March 9.
