Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion Rory MacDonald is defending the gold against Jon Fitch at Bellator 220, which will also serve as a Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix opening round bout.
MacDonald is coming off of a loss to Gegard Mousasi at Bellator 206 and the fighter knew that changes were needed ahead of the next fight.
?Well, its just like more preparation?planning. Had to make some changes, put myself out of my comfort zone. Go back to what works, I had done some different things in my training camp (because) it just works in my comfort zone. I don?t want to get too much into it, but I feel like I took this time off to kind of plan my training camp a little bit?push myself out of my comfort zone and get back in there hungry, focused and in good shape. Just ready to get in there and fight hard,? says MacDonald to Fightful?s James Lynch during a media scrum at Bellator 214.
If MacDonald had won at Bellator 206, it would have made him the first double champ in Bellator MMA history, a goal accomplished by Ryan Bader at Bellator 214.
It has been quite some time since Bellator MMA has held an event in Canada, but MacDonald believes it would be amazing for them to return to the country.
?I understand Vancouver?them not wanting to go there, just because of the market?the way its been. I would love to go back there and fight there, even to just do a smaller town. I would love to fight in Kelowna personally, I think that would just be amazing. I talked to Scott (Coker) about it, I didn?t hear much back. He was interested,? says MacDonald.
Bellator 220 takes place on Saturday, April 27 from the SAP Center in San Jose, California with Rory MacDonald and Jon Fitch headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the Paramount Network.
