Fabricio Werdum vs. Fedor Emelianenko II is one-step closer to reality.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Werdum and the legendary Emelianeko have both publicly expressed interest in a rematch ever since Werdum's departure from UFC. In a new interview, Werdum revealed his manager had approached Bellator President Scott Coker about the fight.
“(The talks) really are advanced. Ali [Abdelaziz] went there last week, had the talk, and now it’s a matter of Fedor accepting," Werdum told Canal Encarada, per MMA Fighting. "And he said the other day in an interview that he wanted to do this rematch as well. Since I have huge respect for Fedor, I’d definitely give him a rematch — not only for that but also the financial side, the promotion, the whole history we had."
Werdum and Emelianenko met for the first time at a Strikeforce event in June 2010. The fight lasted only 1:09 as Werdum tapped out "The Last Emperor" via triangle armbar, handing Emelianenko his first professional defeat in a decade.
