Fighting Words: Jon Jones And Matt Mitrione's Twitter Beef

MMA

It's been a while since we've had a Fighting Words piece. This summer was a pretty docile one on social media.

Matt Mitrione changed that.

UFC superstars who love soccer and their favourite clubs

DUDE, WHAT!? Why would you do that? The two look nothing alike, and you weren't provoked. What's causin' all of this?

Is Matt Mitrione angling for a fight? Well, no. The two are in different weight divisions and different companies. And it wouldn't appear Jones is financially incentivized to give a shit.

At least this time, Mitrione attacked Jones for one of the (many) things worth actually criticizing him about. Going at his physical appearance was like going to war with a box of laffy taffy when you have an AK-47 sitting next to you.

Still, Jones had his own fun.

Mitrione, despite his quick rebound by trolling Jones for cocaine, then brought politics into the fray.

W---what? This is getting more confusing. Mitrione somehow connected Jones' drug past to HIllary Clinton. I don't get it either.

Poor Mitrione. He's off in Bellator making really good money, has a nice broadcasting gig, and picked a fight with a man who's only lost them outside the cage. When the guy you're targeting has already faced substance abuse issues, a hit-and-run, DUIs, USADA and the like, you're probably not going to make him look any worse unless you have some riveting new information. Mitrione didn't. Instead, Jones is just sitting around, trolling the 205-pound division while he waits on his disciplinary hearing from the NAC.

Mitrione also went the 'little guy' route, in regards to Jones fighting at light heavyweight. Mind you, the guy has a 5-inch reach advantage on Mitrione despite the two being the same size. Jones' also happened to walk through one Daniel Cormier, who many think would be the UFC Heavyweight Champion if he so chose.

Mitrione picked a fight with Jones, and came out smelling like doody -- and it's his fault. There's plenty to trash Jones about. This wasn't even timely. You stand a much better chance just waiting for the next Jones news story to break and angle your point than this. This was about as one-sided as it gets.

Fightful.com declares Jon Jones the winner.
