Final World Boxing Super Series Semifinals Gets Date And Venue

The World Boxing Super Series have announced the last of its semifinal matches, with the super middleweight tournament returning to Germany.

Former world champion Juergen Braehmer and Callum Smith will fight on February 24 at the Arena Nürnberger Versicherung in Nuremberg, Germany. Promoter Kalle Sauerland, the chief boxing officer of tournament organizer Comosa AG, announced the fight in a news release, billing it as a fight between young rising star in Smith and a scrappy veteran in Braehmer.

"Smith vs. Braehmer -- England vs. Germany -- it's a classic anyway, but this one pits youth vs. experience. Smith is eager to show the world he is the best while Braehmer is entering the last chance saloon. The outcome is unpredictable. It's going to be a thrilling night in Germany and a fitting event for the last of our semifinal fixtures."

Smith, who is unbeaten in 23 professional fights, entered the tournament as one of the top four fighters. In the quarterfinals last year, Smith defeated then-undefeated boxer Erik Skoglund by unanimous decision.

Braehmer, on the other hand, returned to the super middleweight division for the World Boxing Super Series. Braehmer was a world champion at light heavyweight in 2016, but lost the title to Nathan Cleverly due to an injury Braehmer suffered in the middle of the fight.

The winner of the Braehmer vs. Smith fight will fight the winner of the George Groves vs. Chris Eubank Jr. fight taking place on February 17 in Manchester, England. The super middleweight finals do not have a date or venue, but the winner of the tournament will be crowned the WBA "super" super middleweight champion.
