Floyd Mayweahter is coming out of retirement, or so he claims.
The undefeated former world champion posted the following on Instagram, indicating that he will be back in 2020.
The timing of the post is interesting, considering that an interview with Reuters was posted on November 19 that he's staying retired and away from the sport so he can focus on his health.
"I've got calls to get back into the ring, but my health is my wealth," Mayweather told Reuters. "Boxing is a very, very brutal sport. In the last few years a lot of fighters have died inside that squared circle...You have got to know when to hang it up. I had a great career."
Mayweather came out of retirement in 2017 when he fought former UFC champion Conor McGregor on pay-per-view. Mayweather emerged victorious with a TKO victory to improve his record to 50-0. Despite constant questions on his status, Mayweather had mostly insisted that he is staying retired.
In September 2018, a video of Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in Tokyo was posted that seemed to tease a rematch of their 2014 bout. That never materialized and instead, Mayweather fought Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in a three-round exhibition boxing match at a Rizin event in 2018. Mayweather stopped Nasukawa late in the first round of the bout after knocking him down three times.
In the interview with Reuters, Mayweather also said he could continue doing exhibition bouts like the one against Nasukawa.
?I?ll still travel and do exhibitions. I make great money doing exhibitions ? between $10 and $30 million,? Mayweather said.
Mayweather has won championships from super featherweight all the way to junior middleweight with his last title bout being a WBA and WBC welterweight title defense against Andre Berto in 2015.
