Promoter Frank Warren says negotiations are progressing for a rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.
Warren spoke to ESPN to provide info on how fight talks are proceeding regarding the WBC heavyweight title rematch. The two boxers engaged in a heavyweight classic that saw both men fight to a split draw with the global boxing community clamoring for a rematch.
As far as where a potential rematch could take place, Warren revealed that it is looking like the fight will take place in the United States once more. The reason for the fight being in the U.S. and not in the U.K. is that having the rematch take place in the United States maximizes the financial rewards for those involved.
"We're trying to make that fight at the moment, everyone wants the fight and most importantly the fighters want it. The venue is looking like the U.S., that's where the money is. Tyson was disappointed with the judging with the last fight, as I was, so a lot of things need to be sorted but the U.S. is where they want it, probably in the second quarter," Warren said.
In regards to a possible date for the fight, Warren simply stated that it might take place sometime in the second quarter.
Wilder vs. Fury headlined a pay-per-view in Los Angeles in December that has reportedly drawn at least 300,000 buys. After the fight, both Wilder and Fury stated that they wanted a rematch and that it should happen soon.
