Freddie Roach Says GSP Wants To Fight Conor McGregor

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre will be returning to the Octagon later this year to face UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping.

Famed boxing trainer Freddie Roach says that when GSP’s run in the UFC is done, it will do so with a fight with UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.

“Who wouldn't want that fight (with McGregor)?” the legendary coach said to Fight Hub. “I mean, It’s a big fight. We’d have to maybe cut weight, meet in the middle somewhere. Something like that. There’s a lot of negotiations to still happen, of course, to make that happen. Who wouldn't want that fight?”

GSP hasn’t competed since defeating Johny Hendricks by decision at UFC 167 over three years ago.

Bipsing recently came out and said that if GSP doesn’t fight him by July, then the title shot will go to Yoel Romero and that could put a halt to any future fight plans for the former champion.

However, the famed boxing trainer wants people to know GSP is hungry and ready to fight.

“He’s very hungry to get back into it,” Roach said. “I wouldn't have anything to do with it unless he was ready.”

Roach also played an instrumental role in GSP’s return to the UFC during contract negotiations, playing the middle man between the fighter and the promotion.
