Former UFC champion Anthony Pettis is a free agent heading into 2021.
When asked about his free-agent status at the post-fight press conference after his win at UFC Vegas 17, Pettis stated that he was weighing his options after fighting the final fight on his current contract.
"That was the risk of taking this fight without resigning the UFC contract," Pettis commented. "Usually, I resign my UFC contracts 3 fights to go or 2 fights to go, but this time I'm 33-years-old, this is my 11th and a half year with this company. I've been in this company for a long time. I love this place, I grew up under these lights, they made me who I am. At this point, I'm going to take my time, go to Christmas, have my New Years', and then see what happens at the beginning of 2021."
Pettis was then asked about the promised roster cuts, and whether that impacted his thinking going into his fight against Alex Morono, where he would emerge victorious.
"No, not really, if I were to let that get to my head, then I would've fought a different fight out there," Pettis said. "I don't think my job is at stake, I think I've earned the right to fight where I'm at. I can fight with the best of them."
Pettis is now on a two-fight winning streak, with wins over Donald Cerrone in May, and Alex Morono on Saturday night, and heads into free agency with some leverage on his side.
