Garbrandt Promises To Finish Cruz

If Cody Garbrandt is granted shot at Dominick Cruz and the UFC bantamweight title, Garbrandt does not intend on taking long to become the new champion.

In an interview with MMA Junkie following his knockout win at UFC 202, Garbrandt continued his recent war of words with the UFC champ. Garbrandt, undefeated as a professional, had just beaten Takeya Mizugaki in less than a minute by knockout.

“I’m going to beat the champ faster than that," Garbrandt said in the interview. "That’s all I can say to that."

Garbrandt is 10-0 as a pro fighter, and his past three wins all have come by knockout or TKO, all in the first round.

"Three first-round finishes. I don’t see any other bantamweight doing that," Garbrandt told MMA Junkie. "Obviously if the champ wants it, I want the fight, the fans want it. I believe I deserve a title fight.

"I find his chin, and I’ll have the belt.”

Cruz and Garbrandt have been going back and forth verbally for quite a while now. Cruz, an analyst as part of the Fox coverage of UFC 202, even shared an anecdote on the air where he said he mistook Garbrandt for CM Punk while recalling a confrontation backstage earlier in the evening. Following his win over Mizugaki, in a post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Garbrandt said he was going to break Cruz's jaw.

A title fight between Garbrandt and Cruz would match two fighters on torrid win streaks. Cruz has won 13 consecutive bouts.
