Gennady Golovkin Vs. Daniel Jacobs Results: Major Upset And Close Decision In Two World Title Fights

Welcome to Fightful.com's live viewing party of Gennady Golovkin vs. Daniel Jacobs for the unified world middleweight titles. Golovkin, one of the biggest names in the sport, is headlining Madison Square Garden against an opponent in Jacobs who is one of the best power punchers in the sport. Jacobs declined the IBF's mandatory weigh-in earlier today and so cannot win the IBF title, but Golovkin could still lose the title.

We'll be bringing you quick recaps of the non-title fights and round-by-round coverage of the title fights which will be broadcasted on HBO pay-per-view or on RingTV.com.

MAIN CARD

Ryan Martin vs. Bryant Cruz: Lightweight Bout: For the first half of the fight, Martin had been in complete control with his left hook. He?s landed more than half of his power punches through the first four rounds and showed poise whenever Cruz got some offense in. Cruz did land punches throughout the fight, but didn?t really hurt Martin at all. Martin did hurt Cruz in the fifth round, but failed to capitalize on the knockdown opportunity. Only the fourth round was the fight evenly matched because Cruz landed solid combinations with his right hand, but even then, Martin was still in control.

From the sixth round onwards, it became a matter of when the fight would be stopped because Cruz had been getting hurt badly with threats from the referee and his own trainer to stop Martin or the fight will be stopped.

Martin showcased a lot of skills in executing several punches and had not gotten tired at any point, but this fight proved that Martin is a solid prospect, but needs a better opponent that can take and counterattack Martin?s offense better. I expect Martin to get a big fight at some point in 2017.

Official Result: Ryan Martin defeated Bryant Cruz via TKO, round 8, 0:45

Carlos Cuadras vs. David Carmona: Super Flyweight Bout: Coming off a loss to Roman ?Chocolatito? Gonzalez in 2016, former WBC champion Carlos Cuadras needed a win against Carmona to get back on track and set up a future rematch against Chocolatito, who is in the co-main event of this pay-per-view. Cuadras did dominate this fight, it was not a great showing. Cuadras? hooks looked decent at several points in the fight, but he looked flat for most of the fight.

Carmona got some nice punches in the second half of the fight and finally made it interesting in the seventh round. Carmona accidentally low blowed Cuadras, but Carmona punished Cuadras? body and showed a lot of fire from that point onward. Carmona pretty much won the last four rounds, making for an interesting decision.

Overall, Cuadras? stock plummeted after this fight. Even a decent performance would have people warranting a rematch against Chocolatito

Official Decision: Carlos Cuadras defeated David Carmona via unanimous decision (97-93, 97-93, 96-94)
