Although not by a direct promotional deal, Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing will have a presence in Gennadiy Golovkin's fights moving forward.
A deal has been reached that will have Matchroom Boxing working Golovkin's GGG Promotions for the remainder of the former middleweight champion's deal with DAZN. The relationship will start with Golovkin's upcoming fight against Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF middleweight title taking place October 5 at Madison Square Garden.
With Golovkin and Hearn working together, the possibilities of Golovkin fighting some of Matchroom's top fighters are now rock solid. Matchroom sports the likes of Billy Joe Saunders, Daniel Jacobs, Callum Smith and Demetrius Andrade, all current or former world champions at either middleweight or super middleweight.
This isn't the first time the two sides have worked together for a Golovkin fight. Back in 2016, the two entities joined forces to bring Golovkin to the United Kingdom to defend his WBC and IBF middleweight titles against Kell Brook. Golovkin ended up winning that fight by stopping Brook in five rounds.
Back in March, DAZN announced that Golovkin signed a six-fight, three year deal to have his fights be streamed exclusively on the platform in the United States. His first fight saw him knock out Steve Rolls in the main event of a card taking place at Madison Square Garden. Afterwards, Golovkin unsuccessfully tried to negotiate a trilogy fight against WBA champion Canelo Alvarez, but a win over Derevyanchenko would give Golovkin some potential leverage in trying to secure a third fight against the Mexican star. It should be noted that both fights Alvarez has had since signing a multi-year contract to fight on DAZN were against fighters promoted by Hearn at the time.
