Golden Boy Announces Ryan Garcia vs. Jayson Velez As May 4 ESPN Main Event

If Gennady Golovkin will not fight at the StubHub Center on Cinco De Mayo weekend, then Golden Boy Promotions will at least take advantage of the open weekend to have a boxing event there.

The company announced that it will hold a Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN event on May 4 at the StubHub Center in California. The main event of that event will see top prospect Ryan Garcia face off against top Puerto Rican prospect Jayson Velez.

UFC superstars who love soccer and their favourite clubs

Garcia scored the biggest win of his pro career last month when he knocked out former world title challenger Fernando Vargas in the first round of a Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN main event. Garcia, the current NABF Junior super featherweight champion, has won all seven of his fights since the start of 2018.

After losing four straight fights from 2015 to 2016, Velez has strung together three straight victories. His last victory came in on March 3 when he defeated former world champion Juan Manuel Lopez to win the interim WBC FECARBOX super featherweight title.

Also announced on the card is middleweight contender Gary "Spike" O'Sullivan fighting against an opponent to be named later. O'Sullivan was previously offered a chance to fight unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin on May 5, but O'Sullivan reportedly rejected the fight, not wanting to take a fight on "short notice" and for "short money."

Other boxers announced for the card are Alexis Rocha, Ferdinand Kerobyan and Richard Acevedo, all fighting on separate fights on the card.
