Golden Boy President Calls Out Mikey Garcia To Unify Titles With Jorge Linares

To say Golden Boy Promotions is eager to have a lightweight unification fight between Mikey Garcia and Jorge Linares is a bit of an understatement.

Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez called out Garcia on Twitter, saying Garcia should call Gomes to set up the fight against Linares.

This prompted a short response tweet by Garcia.

The unification bout was ordered by the WBC convention in October, due to Garcia holding the WBC lightweight title and Linares being the WBC Diamond champion. Linares is also the WBA lightweight champion and the unification would be more specifically for the WBC and WBA titles, with the Diamond belt being a special prize.

Garcia won the title back in January, but he has yet to defend his title. This past summer, Garcia moved up in weight for one fight against four-division world champion Adrien Broner. Garcia defeated Broner and has mostly left his future as the lightweight champion up in the air.

Golden Boy Promotions tried to sign Garcia, who does not have a promoter, to a multi-fight deal recently, which included the opportunity to fight current WBO junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in Cotto's retirement fight in December. Garcia declined the offer, which was said to be a seven-figure deal, and opted to explore his options without the need of a promoter or a promotion company.

Linares recently retained his title against British boxer Luke Campbell on HBO.
